3 Things SA E-Commerce Stores Get Wrong With SEO

Good products don't rank themselves. Here are the three mistakes we see most often on South African Shopify stores.
1. No local signals anywhere on the site
If you're targeting South African customers, Google needs to see that clearly: your city or region in page titles and copy, a Google Business Profile that's actually claimed and filled in, and local contact details in your footer. Stores that skip this compete for generic, high-competition terms instead of the local searches they could actually win.
2. Product pages with three words of description
"Blue cotton t-shirt. R299." That's not enough content for Google to understand what the page is about, let alone rank it. Product pages need at least a few genuine sentences — material, fit, use case, what makes it different — not just a spec sheet.
3. Nobody's tracking what's actually working
Without GA4 and basic conversion tracking installed correctly, you can't tell which channel or search term is actually bringing in sales. Most stores we look at either don't have analytics installed properly, or have it installed but nobody's looked at it in months.
The fix is rarely "write more content." It's usually: fix the technical basics, add real local signals, and make sure every product page answers the two questions a buyer actually has — what is this, and why should I trust it.
